Frans Masereel, L’homme et l’œuvre, Joseph Billiet, Les écrivains réunis, Paris, 1925
In 1889, the Flemish wood scultptor, painter, and illustrator Frans Masereel was born. Ignored for decades in both France, the United-States and England, his collection of wood engravings (such as Mon livre d’heures 1919, Le Soleil 1919) offer a wealth of insights into urban life (such as La Ville in 1925), establishing Frans Masereel as the father of the graphic novel. Soft cover booklet with beatiful illustrations in good general condition: the binding is a bit fragile.
